CAP Flies with BAM: On October 27th, several members (including cadets) of the local Civil Air Patrol (CAP) came out to Popp's Field to receive RC flight training from the Bend Aero Modelers (BAM). BAM and CAP have formed a partnership to leverage their mutual passion for aviation and will collaborate on future activities to further the partnership.
As a first step, BAM arranged a flight training day to allow CAP members to experience the joy of RC flying and give cadets a taste of model aviation. BAM's flight instructors used a buddy box setup and three trainer airplanes to give everybody an opportunity to test their flying skills. For many CAP members and cadets it was their first time flying an RC plane, and even CAP members who normally fly full scale planes got to experience what it is like to fly a plane without sitting in it. Everybody enjoyed the day at the field (despite the cloudy weather) and more flight training as well as educational activities are on the horizon.

D's Hobbies Update: D's Hobbies of Bend has recently introduced a rewards program for repeat customers, including BAM members.
Here is how it works:
To make sure that you can take advantage of the program, you will need to register by filling out your personal rewards card at your next visit to D's Hobbies (ideally before you make your next purchase). After placing six (6) separate purchases, you will receive a reward that is valued at 10% of the total of the previous six purchases. The reward value can be applied towards your next purchase. After using your reward, you simply fill out a new rewards card and the process starts over. For more details, please contact D's Hobbies.

Work Party: We will have a work party this coming Sunday (4/29) and meet around 10:00 AM. The goal is to install the replacement fabric that we purchased and restore the pit area to its original condition. We anticipate about 2 hours for the job to be completed. Hopefully we will get enough helping hands to get it done properly and quickly.

RC FlightDeck Calendar Implemented: We have implemented RC Pilot Magazine’s event calendar, called RC FlightDeck, as our standard tool for managing club events. It’s a web-based calendar that easily integrates into our club’s website. RC FlightDeck provides a comprehensive set of search filters that allows viewers to customize their event searches.
Our website offers a BAM-only event listing on our Welcome page and a District 11 default listing under the Events page. The calendar on the Events page allows you to expand the search to registered events nationwide, including Mexico and Canada. Anybody can register events, which are stored in a centralized database at RC Pilot Magazine. Overall, this tool minimizes event calendar maintenance and makes it very easy to find out about events at other clubs without needing to repost the same event.

Work Party Scheduled: We have scheduled a work party for Saturday, February 4th to make preliminary fixes to the flying field. Due to the wind damage that we had at the field, we will need to secure the fabric in the pit area and taxiways to avoid further damage. We will also make some preliminary fixes to the tables and run-up stands (as necessary) and secure the damaged fence post that holds up the main gate.
We will meet at 10:00 AM. If you can make it, please join us and bring a few tools such as a hammer, shovel, broom, etc. We will also assess any remaining repairs that are needed to permanently fix all damages. We will schedule a follow-up work party for those repairs (if necessary).

New Website Launched: We are excited to finally go live with our revamped and updated website. The most visible change is obviously the new design. However, we have also taken the time to restructure existing content and add new content. Our goal was to simplify the navigation and make it easier for visitors to quickly find information about our club, key contacts, and how to get started in R/C flying. We will continue to add new sections and more comprehensive content over the next few months and hope that you will enjoy our new website and find the presented content informative.
